Cats are excellent yoga masters. They practice this ancient exercise on a daily basis. They stretch their torso, extend their arms, pull their upper body up or twist their body to achieve a level of precision that many people like us cannot compare to. [Also see Kittens Say Stretching is Hard Work]
Maybe the ancient yoga practitioners were inspired by their cats? It is highly probably since there are many shocking similarities between yoga and cat stretching poses. Check out the comparison pictures below and let me know what you think.

I do yoga, and I get one of my cats to come supervise me closely as I practice. Then he relaxes so deeply, he ends up purring himself to sleep until I am done. It's very cool!

This is ingenious. Half of my life we've had cats, so I've seen them do some crazy bending, but it never occurred to me to compare them to yoga exercises.

I'm not sure that cats really need to do yoga. It seems to me that my cat doesn't have bones but rubber bands and slinkys instead. If she stretched, she might create so much potential energy to accidentally shoot herself through the air!
