Meet Lucy and her seven very hungry kittens.

She was looking for shelter during an ice storm when she was pregnant.

Robyn Anderson of Love and Hisses writes: “Lucy (est’d date of birth 3/19/12) came to us on March 19, 2015. She’d shown up almost two weeks previously at someone’s house during an ice storm looking for shelter. When it became clear that she was planning to stick around AND that she was pregnant, they called Challenger’s House for help.

When she came to us, we expected her to give birth at any moment. Almost TWO WEEKS later, she finally did, on April 1, 2015.”

“In the space of three hours, she gave birth to SEVEN kittens. We weren’t expecting quite that many!”

“Lucy is a wonderful and attentive mother, and her kittens more than doubled their weight in their first week of life.”

“There are SO MANY of them, and all they wanna do is EAT.”

When a rescue ginger kitten, who desperately needed friends, was introduced to a litter of kittens, he became the happiest kitty he could be.

“PW was a singleton who’d been at the shelter for a few weeks, and desperately needed to be around other kittens his own age,” said Robyn Anderson via Love and Hisses. “Ralph, Trader Joe, Von and Winn Dixie were a litter born at a vet’s office, and were about a week younger than PW.”

Robyn knew they would make the perfect siblings for PW.

PW was found at a grocery store. “PW came to us prenamed – so named because he was found at a Piggly Wiggly – and so we went with grocery store names as our naming theme,” Robyn added.

Now PW can’t get enough of playtime with his new fur friends. “They’re sweet, friendly, extremely playful kittens, and after some initial hissiness between PW and the other four, they get along great and play together like crazy.”

Being a mama is no easy work. Khaleesi the mama cat has definitely done her share of parenting when she was pregnant and rescued by Challenger’s House.

Fosterer Robyn Anderson wrote: “On April 13, 2013, Khaleesi came to us; she’d shown up at a family’s house, and the vet told them that she was pregnant. They fell in love with her and wanted to keep her, but the other family pets weren’t having it so she came to us.

‘Khaleesi’ is the title of a character from Game of Thrones. Her kittens are named after dragons; Khaleesi is the Mother of Dragons.

In the evening of May 1, 2013, the dragons arrived! Khaleesi gave birth to four kittens of her own. She also adopted a small kitten who’d been born earlier in the day, and whose mother and siblings were lost in an accident. There’s a brown tabby girl (Ruth), white and orange girl (Ember), gray tuxie boy (Puff), black tuxie boy (Norbert, the orphan), and a buff boy (Scorch).”

Khaleesi the cat mama named after a character from Game of Thrones came to Challenger’s House with a very pregnant belly and a ton of love.

Khaleesi also adopted an orphan kitten, a tux, who was in need of some motherly love. She was very protective of her babies, keeping them safe and fed the whole time.

Even during a brief break, the kittens continued nursing. There was really no time to rest for the busy mama.

This lovely feral cat went into labor and gave birth to nine babies when they found her. Seven of the kittens thrived.

“Livia was one of several cats who were being fed by a woman. A neighbor stepped in to have the cats spayed and neutered. On September 5th, while she was sitting at the North Alabama Spay Neuter Clinic in Huntsville, waiting to be spayed, Livia went into labor. She ultimately gave birth to 9 kittens, but 2 of them didn’t make it. On September 17th, Livia and her 7 kittens came to us. Carmela, Dr. Melfi, Meadow, and Adriana are girls. Tony, Silvio, and Paulie Walnuts are boys,” said Robyn Anderson on her blog.

Catherine (Kate) a beautiful black cat showed up in someone’s yard one day and started making herself at home. The owner of the family brought her to the Challenger’s House in Toney, Alabama. When she was going through physical check up at the vet’s, they discovered that Kate didn’t come to the yard alone. She was pregnant. “She showed up at the house of a woman and her son; …Kate hovered around their back yard for a while before she decided to make herself at home,” said Robyn Anderson, the foster mom.

They took Kate with a big belly to Robyn, an experienced fosterer. In less than a month, Kate gave birth to five very fuzzy kittens (two tuxies, two tabbies, and one black).

Kate has been nothing but loving and dedicated to her babies. Her motherly instinct kicked in when she was pregnant. She was looking for a safe place to have her kittens and ended up in the good hands of the Challenger’s House.

This is a heart warming story of a sick kitten and her incredible transformation. With love and a lot of TLC, Dandelion’s life is forever changed.

Dandelion, a beautiful white kitty, came from a litter of three girls. They were found abandoned along with their mother near a club in Huntsville, Alabama [via Love and Hisses]. The kittens were sick with watery eyes and a lot of health problems. Little Dandelion was in rough shape when she came to Robyn A., their foster mom [See their story].

As time progressed, they got better and stronger. They were given plenty of food, medical treatments, and the opportunity to live safely indoors. Dandelion began to recover and she really came out of her shell.

When she came to Robyn’s care with watery eyes, dirty ears, and a very hungry belly.

With a lot of care and love from the foster family, she started to get better
