A cat was abandoned along with a litterbox and cat supplies on Nostrand Avenue in Brooklyn, New York. A few days later, he found just the right person to bring him to safety.
He was crying next to all his belongings when he was first spotted last Wednesday.
Before the cat ran off, Meredith Ferrel managed to snap a couple of photos of the feline, and she submitted them to Flatbush Area Team for Cats (FAT Cats), a cat rescue group in Flatbush, Brooklyn, for assistance to find the cat.
As soon as FAT Cats received the photos, they reached out to social media as they began the search.
"Numerous rescue groups, concerned neighbors and our own members made repeated sweeps of the area without success. We got reported sightings but were never able to act fast enough," FAT Cats wrote on Facebook.
Then on Sunday morning, a call came in and a local TNR advocate and retired cat rescuer, Karen Oh, found the kitty in her backyard, about a block away from where he was first seen. "He is a friendly cat who just wandered up to Karen!" Elizabeth Champ of FAT Cats told Love Meow.
They immediately rushed over to meet the cat. "It was him!"
"He must have known somehow what a huge animal lover she is!" Champ told Love Meow.
They brought the cat to get vetted, and screened for a microchip. They couldn't find one, but the one-year-old kitty got a clean bill of health.
He was named Nostrand after the avenue where he was first found.
Nobody knows the exact reason why he was abandoned.
"My guess is that either a family had to move and for whatever reason couldn't take him or he was dumped because he was a male cat that reached maturity and since he wasn't neutered may have been 'acting out' in the house.
"Those are the two main reasons friendly cats in our area wind up on the street," Champ told Love Meow.
The kitty was very grateful to get the attention and help. He didn't even mind having blood drawn for testing as he knew he was in good hands.
After four days of searching for Nostrand, the kitty couldn't have chosen a better person to lead him to safety. "We are over the moon to be able to find him a loving, forever home."

During their search for Nostrand, they found another friendly abandoned cat, Martin. Both cats are in their own foster homes and are waiting for the right families to love them and cherish them forever.
