After seven months of waiting for a forever home, these two 14-year-old cats finally found a place to spend their retirement.
Two senior cats were surrendered to a vet's office, VitalPet - Windmill Veterinary Center, in Prosper, Texas last year after their owner passed away. The two cats, though not blood-related, have been together since they were kittens, just eight months apart.
The clinic tried to get them adopted but to no avail as not many people seemed interested in taking two senior cats home. The veterinary staff tried to let them out of their kennel as much as they could but they knew the kitties needed a home of their own.
Getting both seniors adopted together became quite a challenge. After a while with little success, the clinic reached out to someone that they knew, would ensure a happy retirement for older cats like them.
They contacted Karyn Poplin of Kitty Adventure Rescue League and Sanctuary, a rescue group that provides life-long care to disabled, special needs, and elderly cats in the Dallas–Fort Worth Texas area. Once they had room for new residents, Karyn went to pick up the duo and welcomed them into their new home.
"These two cats are a little on the large size, so they're pretty happy to stretch their toes even if it is with new people and animals," Karyn told Love Meow.
After seven months and spending most of their time in a kennel, the two kitties moved into their new abode.
"They waited a long time... the boy is very grumpy. He'll come around even if it takes him a long time - we've got forever together," Karyn added.
After checking out every nook and cranny of her new home, the ginger girl settled in very quickly.
She is happy for all the space she has to stretch her legs and walk around, and loving humans to snuggle with.
"The girl is very vocal and outgoing and making friends, and the boy is very grumpy towards people but he's all bark and no bite. He's not a cuddler yet but maybe one day," Karyn told Love Meow.
They gave the ginger boy a quiet place so he could take his time to relax and adjust. "He seems to like it there."
The sweet girl has already claimed her human dad's lap.
She is enjoying her time with other senior residents at the sanctuary and is truly blossoming!
After seven long months, the two 14-year-old have found a place to spend their golden years together.
They may be a bit older and less playful, but these older cats make wonderful companions and deserve a loving forever home just like any other cats.
