Two kittens were found wandering the streets together and never left each other's side.
A pair of kittens was spotted in a neighborhood in Montreal, Canada, without a mother in sight. The duo was scrounging for food but never wandered far from each other. Neighbors noticed that they were getting sick and worried about their safety.
Nadia, a local animal rescuer, came across a post online about the two kittens and immediately responded. She set a humane trap in the area and was able to get the pair as well as two other stray kittens to safety.
Her rescue partner Josie found a temporary place for the kittens to stay before reaching out to Chatons Orphelins Montréal, a local cat rescue, for help.
Chatons Orphelins Montréal took them into their care and gave them the medical attention they needed.
The two brothers, named Octav and Romus, were about 12 weeks old. They both have the same "beauty mark" on their nose besides being extremely close from the start. Even at the vet, they were attached at the hip, keeping each other comforted.
"They were very shy and scared when they arrived. Their hearts were beating out of their chests," Celine Crom of Chatons Orphelins Montréal shared with Love Meow.
"(After a vet visit), they went to their foster home with Marielyne and quickly befriended the resident cats. Despite being a bit timid, the two brothers are gentle and sweet-natured."
For the first week, they learned to adjust to living around people. They were easily spooked by rapid movements or loud noises, and would run to one another for comfort.
The feline brothers have been inseparable since they stepped paw into their foster home. Slowly but surely, they are coming out of their shells and warming up to their foster mom.
"They are very close and always follow each other. They like to nap in the cat tree during the day. At night, they will sleep on their foster mom's bed to be near her," Celine said.
Romus the gray and white cat is the curious one. Even though he is still a bit shy, he can't resist the cat toys and all the fun activities around him. Octav the tuxedo is more reserved and quite dependent on his brother. "He watches everything Romus does and then follows suit."
Romus the protective brother makes sure that Octav is always nearby. They look out for each other and stay within eyesight of one another.
They even pose the same or mirror each other when they nap.
The kittens are gaining more confidence every day and have grown to enjoy being in a loving home with comfy beds, good food, cat toys and plenty of perching places.
Whatever they do, they do it together!
The bonded brothers have never been apart since the day they were spotted on the streets.
You can't find one without the other.
"They had little to no human contact before they came to us. They are now enjoying their life as indoor cats," Celine said. "They may require more time and understanding but once you gain their trust, they are the sweetest companions."
Sunbathing next to each other by the window is one of their favorite pastimes.
After nearly two months in foster care, the two brothers are ready for their new chapter of life.
They are looking for a forever home where they can continue their journey together.
