A Good Samaritan heard a kitten's cries and found him in a wheel well all alone.
Little Wanderers NYC, a NYC-based rescue group, received an urgent request from someone in Williamsburg, Brooklyn about a kitten in serious distress.
A Good Samaritan followed the incessant cries and found a tiny stray inside a wheel well, screaming loudly. The kind person managed to get him out to safety and immediately contacted local shelters for help.
"Agencies were closed, and there aren't many options for scared, frail kittens. So we stepped up," Little Wanderers shared with Love Meow.
Stephanie Tulien, president of Little Wanderers, took in the tuxedo without hesitation. Their network of volunteers sprang into action to get the kitten the help he needed to thrive.
The kitten whom they named Carl, had a rough start at life. "When he was rescued he tested FIV positive (Feline immunodeficiency virus) and was dehydrated and petrified."
Over the next few weeks, the tuxedo stayed at the veterinarian's office so he could receive round-the-clock care for his recovery.
He was so glad to be safe and loved, and stole the hearts of many at the animal hospital with his calm demeanor and penchant for cuddles.
"He has such a relaxed temperament and is so confident," Kyla, foster volunteer and adoption counselor of Little Wanderers, told Love Meow.
"We are so thankful for our friends at Franklin Avenue Hospital and especially Srividya Mandava DVM for getting him in tip-top shape."
Little Carl doesn't let anything stop him. Not only has he made a full recovery, his personality is shining through. "He is a lovely kitten. Don't let FIV scare you," the rescue said.
FIV is generally passed from cat to cat through deep bite wounds. On less common occasions, FIV is transmitted from an infected mother cat to her kittens.
"FIV positive and FIV negative cats can live together as family, as long as the cats get along and do not fight."
The tuxedo boy is ready to look for his forever loving home. He continues to greet everyone with cuddles, and can't get enough attention from his human friends.
"Carl is a tough, adorable little guy that would have had a very different fate had Little Wanderers not rescued him," Stephanie told Love Meow.
The former stray is enjoying his VIP life and can't wait to find a place to call his very own.
