A tiny feral kitten was found hiding in someone's yard for hours frozen in fear, but a few days after he was rescued, everything changed!
Meet Meeko!
On June 7th a 5-week-old orphaned kitten was found in a family's lawn, paralyzed by fear. Laura, director of Paws for the Cause, got a call about the kitten and rushed to his rescue.
"He was so terrified that he stayed in that lawn for hours, not moving. The finders thought he was injured," Laura told Love Meow.
Turns out, he was completely petrified due to absence of human contact. The mother cat was nowhere in sight, so they scooped him up and brought him to safety. For the first time in his life, Meeko would stay in a safe home where he would find plenty of food, warm beds, and love.
"He was still pretty shaken the first couple of days but since 'feral' cats are our specialty we know just what to do to get them to turn for us--lots of firm, assertive petting and wet food!"
Butch the cat who is also a rescue, decided that he would be Meeko's surrogate dad. The sweet tabby took to the little kitten, kept him company and taught him that humans aren't so bad.
"As soon as he started to soften up we introduced him to Butch, it was all uphill after that," Laura told Love Meow.
It took Meeko four days to realize that he was safe, but as soon as he did, he became a completely different kitty. His fear went away and he started to purr.
"He is an incredibly loving and sweet kitten. He loves water and will jump straight into a full bathtub."
Two months later, Meeko found his way into his forever home!
"He found a great forever home with two dogs and another lynx point Siamese named Meeko. What are the odds," Laura told Love Meow.
Meeko takes over his human's bed and runs the house like he owns it. It's hard to believe that he is the same kitty they found two months ago.
He has come a long way--from a kitten who was so frightened that he couldn't move to a happy, affectionate lovebug who can't get enough of cuddles.
All it took was some food and a lot of love!
