A kitten who was spotted outside a school parking lot, was rescued from running into the street.
Around mid-June, Athina Selena, founder of Jersey Kitty Nonprofit, was contacted about a stray kitten found in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, needing rescue.
A Good Samaritan spotted the kitty running towards the street from a school parking lot and sprang into action. He managed to rescue her from the busy traffic.
The kitten was just skin and bones and her face was covered in mucus and crust due to a severe upper respiratory infection. The rescuer's friend sent out a plea online as the kitten needed medical attention.
Despite it all, the little tuxedo just wanted to cuddle and crawl onto her rescuer for some much-needed TLC.
Athina responded to the plea and offered to help. When she arrived to pick up the kitten, the tiny ball of fur immediately started purring as she put her in her arms.
"She wanted attention and to be held. I brought her to the vet where we got antibiotics and high calorie food," Athina told Love Meow.
The kitten showed a great appetite and scarfed down all the food and treats she was given.
That night, she was all cleaned up and given a warm bed to sleep in.
The next morning, Athina and her family woke up to a happy little kitty who was no longer congested. Her eyes were clearer and her belly was full.
In just one day, the kitten whom they named Maya, really transformed. Not only could she breathe and see much better, but her energy level soared.
After everything she's gone through, the tuxedo girl doesn't want to be alone and constantly demands company.
Maya loves all the attention from everyone and is extremely affectionate.

"She meows at you to greet you when you walk into the room or try to convince you to give her a treat or two," Athina said.
Knowing the kitten would do much better with friends, they introduced her to a few other foster kittens and their resident cats.
The kitties quickly hit it off and started scampering around the house like they owned it.
Maya has grown by leaps and bounds over the last few weeks. She's no longer that skinny little stray trying to find shelter and food scraps.
The little cuddle-bug has really filled out and is ready to find a place to call her very own.
