A shelter kitty was described as "extremely shy, not socialized," but when a man took a chance on him and spent 90 minutes getting to know him with help from some cat treats, this happened.
Meet Hobbes!
Hobbes was a very shy kitty when he was first brought to the shelter. All he wanted was to hide in the corner and be invisible.
"His cage at the shelter was marked 'extremely shy, not socialized.' I initially overlooked him because he was cowering in a corner, and his little placard indicated he was a difficult cat needing special care," reddit user ImTheWind said.
The kitty was saved from a hoarding situation with very little human contact "as the (former) owner just put out a bunch of food for the cats without interacting with them individually."
The man decided to spend some time with the shy kitty. "I utilized slow blinking heavily in the initial meeting, and made a point of never moving unless I was in the center of his field of view," he said.
After 90 minutes, the kitty mustered enough courage to walk up to him for treats and pets, and eventually snuggled in his lap and started purring.
"Cats only sleep places they trust, and he fell asleep in my lap purring," he said.
When it was time for the guy to get up and finalize the kitty's adoption, it was not easy to get Hobbes out of his lap. "It turns out he's just very shy, and with a little patience he is very physically affectionate."
On Tuesday, he took Hobbes to his new home where he would have a comfortable, quiet place to himself and a lot of lap time to spend with his forever human.
The once extremely shy kitty got to know love and now can't get enough of it.
