A shelter in Spokane, Washington, has come up with a brilliant idea to care for homeless cats. Instead of living a uncertain shelter life, the rescue group helps these kitties find a job!
Nearly 3 million animals are euthanized in shelters each year, more than half of them are cats. Instead of living a life in cages or facing possible euthanasia, SpokAnimal shelter match these beautiful furry creatures to their calling by giving them a job!
The program is called Farm Livin', which gives the kitties an opportunity to do what they do best - being a mouser.
The program pairs shelter cats with cat caring people who own farms, warehouses or any property dealing with rodent issues. Cats that can't find a home can live in those places where they become rodent managers.
They are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and given a clean bill of health.
The farms adopt animals that would otherwise be deemed "unadoptable" for various reasons. But now more than 1,700 kitties have been saved through the program since June 2009.
The adopted kitties have been wonderful to their employers, or rather their families.
