A woman was on her way to rescue an injured cat from a shelter, when she spotted a helpless kitten on the side of a highway.
The rescuer slowly walked up to the motionless kitten, hoping not to startle her.
Kelley Lawrence Peters of The Kitty Krusade (Justin, Fire Survivor) was on a mission to rescue a severely injured kitten from a kill shelter. While she was driving on the highway, she spotted something on the shoulder and knew right away that it was a cat.
"I did a double take... pulled over immediately. Sure enough it's a 6-8 week old kitten eyes shut from URI and motionless," Kelley told Love Meow.
There was busy traffic right next to the kitten who was stranded and frightened . As Kelley made her way to the kitten and said, "It's all right baby," the kitten responded by lifting up her head, a sign of life that brought hope to Kelley. She Immediately scooped her in a blanket and placed her in a carrier.
"How the kitten got on a very busy six lane highway, with barrier walls... I don't know. How no one stopped to help her. I don't know. But I'm honored she allowed me to bring her to safety," Kelley told Love Meow.
Watch the rescue in this video:
She was named Dave (at the time thought to be a boy).
The little tuxedo was sick and hungry but so grateful to be safe. She started purring by the touch.
That day Kelley also rescued the injured kitten, Mia, from the kill shelter, and both girls were taken to the animal hospital.
Their lives were forever changed.
Dave and Mia have been purring non-stop since then.
Both kittens are on the mend, and little Dave has put on some weight and her eyes are getting better each day.
It's been a week since Kelley found the little highway kitten.
"Her eyes have cleared up and she plays all the time. She's a very happy kitten. Her next step... finding a forever home," Kelley told Love Meow.
Sweet Mia is a little fighter.
She is eating better and healing every day from severe injuries. The little tortie girl never gives up.
Dave can now sleep easy at her foster home. The little purr machine is loving her new toys, comfy bed and human friends.
Dreaming about her forever loving home...
