A large box was found outside an animal shelter in Logan, West Virginia. When a rescuer arrived at the gates of the shelter, she could hear meowing coming from the box.
One By One Animal Advocates teamed up with The Paws Squad to pick up a cat and dog from the shelter. It was pouring rain when Robin Kilgore found the box sitting on the ground.
"Our friends at The Paws Squad went to the shelter to pick up another cat for our group," Teresa Atkins of One By One Animal Advocates told Love Meow. "She found a cardboard box sitting in front of the shelter being rained on."
She went to investigate and was shocked by what she discovered - a calico cat mother and her three babies huddled up to her, soaking wet. The cat mama was doing everything she could to keep them safe.
"They were snuggling with momma trying to stay warm. It was raining that morning and we have no idea how long they had been there," Teresa told Love Meow.
After getting dried off, they were moved to a large crate before heading their way to the rescue group in Huntington, West Virginia.
The staff at One by One Animal Advocates had begun looking for a foster family for the mama and her babies.
After a rough beginning, the family is now snuggled up at their warm foster home.
Sara, the foster mom, set up a comfortable, spacious nursery pen for the feline family.
The kittens fell asleep in their new, warm bed.
All three kittens are boys.
Mama was named Gypsie, and her kittens Panda, Cheddar and Velveeta.
This is Panda the little furball.
"They are doing well in foster care," Teresa told Love Meow.
No more cold and rain. The family of four is given a new lease on life. They will be up for adoption once the kittens are big enough.
Mama kept her babies safe before they were found, and now she is caring for her kittens in the comfort of their foster home and doting on them every second.
