A cat found curled up in the leaves overnight came up to a kind person who called out to her, changing her life forever.

About two weeks ago, rescuers at Greenpoint Cats received a text about a cat found nestled among the foliage in a park.
They rushed to the scene and learned from others that the cat had been there since the previous day. "The shivering cat had made a little nest in the leaves to try to keep warm," Greenpoint Cats shared.
When a rescuer called out to the tabby, she perked up and began meowing in response.

The moment the rescuer extended her hand, she stood up and trudged over.
Eager for help, the friendly cat allowed the rescuer to pick her up and place her in a carrier. She was then taken to the vet's office, where she was estimated to be 11 years old. "We named her Karen for McCarren Park (where she was found)."

They found a microchip, and upon contacting the owner, they learned that the cat had been "abandoned in the park."
Karen quickly settled into her foster home, where she had ample food to help her recover from low blood sugar. With a cozy room and comfortable bed, she could finally decompress. "It must have been a terrifying two days out in the cold."

A few hours after they brought her inside, freezing rain began to fall. Now, Karen was warm with her foster family, napping in her new bed with a full belly instead of trying to stay warm in the leaves outside.
She rolled onto her back, purring loudly as she received chin scritches. The sadness on her face melted away, replaced by contentment.

After enduring the cold and hunger, the sweet tabby was thrilled to be indoors. "For two days and nights, she survived in below-freezing temperatures by nesting in a pile of leaves."
"And yet, her spirit is unbroken and her love unconditional."

Since rescuing Karen, volunteers from Greenpoint Cats have also saved three more abandoned cats from the neighborhood.
The sweet tabby regained her strength and curiosity, exploring the house and inspecting the Christmas tree. With renewed energy, she started playing, carrying her toys around and relishing being an indoor cat again.

Karen rediscovered her playful spirit and love for cuddles. After playtime, she would cozy up with her foster mom, purring contentedly. When she was ready for adoption, they hoped to find her a loving family that would cherish her forever.
On New Year's Eve, the rescue received the exciting news they'd been waiting for.
