A cat seen living near the stairs hopped on a person's lap, knowing things were about to get a lot better.

A week ago, Little Wanderers NYC (an animal rescue) received a request to help a tabby cat found living in a freezing stairwell of a building.

The cat was exceptionally friendly, approaching people for food and attention. Since no one came forward to claim her, volunteers at Little Wanderers NYC quickly stepped in to bring her to safety.

"She was sleeping on a plastic bag, wondering if food was coming," the rescue shared with Love Meow.

"It's not a safe environment for her to stay. It's been brutally cold, and the weather is getting worse."

When a neighbor came to check on her, the sweet tabby immediately rose from her makeshift "bed" and greeted them with snuggles. She even stood on her tiptoes, gently reaching for pets as the neighbor stroked her back.

The sweet tabby, craving extra affection, leaned into the neighbor's arms, eventually nestling comfortably in their lap. She held on with both paws as if determined to be rescued that day.

Her endearing way of seeking affection touched everyone she met.

Because the neighbor couldn't foster the cat due to a "no-pet clause in the building," Little Wanderers NYC stepped in to help. They lovingly named the tabby Tigerlilly.

Just two hours after they requested a foster home for Tigerlilly, Jordyne, a kind-hearted volunteer, welcomed her in with loving arms.

She prepared a cozy, quiet space where the deserving cat would never feel cold or hungry again. "Her first day home, she was already cuddly and cozied up to us. She was super happy to be warm and have some food and company," Jordyne told Love Meow.

Tigerlilly rolled onto a rug beside her foster mom, basking in all the gentle petting.

She stayed close to Jordyne, ready to hop onto her lap at any moment. That night, she clung to her foster mom, filling the room with soothing purrs as if making up for lost time.

After living in a cold stairwell for so long, she quickly embraced her new life as an indoor cat. "Fostering is important so we can get loving cats out of the NYC cold and into a home."

Three days later, Tigerlilly went to the vet and received a clean bill of health. She grew fond of her new blankets, curling up on them for naps. After catching up on sleep and refueling with good food, her beautiful personality truly shone.

"She's curious and loves chasing the laser pointer. She also loves sitting on our laps whenever she can."

"Tigerlilly joined a foster home, and it looks like she may just be staying there forever. This cat is the sweetest young cat. We are so pleasantly surprised," the rescue added.

"She is so happy to be sleeping on a warm mattress rather than a cold plastic bag."

In just one week, Tigerlilly's world has turned around, all thanks to the compassion of many, especially her foster mom, who opened her heart and home to the deserving cat.
