Cats love to sniff around prodding things with their nose and learning about them that way. If I meet a cat for the first time, I like to point my index finger to his nose and let him smell my scent. Once they start wiping his face against my finger, I know I have been accepted by the cat :). I guess this is the way I make acquaintances with cats. How do you greet your new kitty friends?
