The first confirmed case of H1N1 virus in cats is found today by the American Veterinary Medical Association. I will have to edit the article I wrote about H1N1 last week.

The cat that has been diagnosed with H1N1 is believed to contract the strain of influenza from a person in the household who has previously caught the Swine flu.

So far there is no evidence to prove that the virus can be passed to another animal or person. However, based on this incident there is always a possibility since influenza viruses are changing and mutating often without any sign.

The 13-year-old cat has recovered from the H1N1 virus  and so have the 2 family members who suffered from the same illness.

It is imperative for cat owners to keep a close eye on their cats' health. If you find any signs of possible sickness in your cats, have your cats seen by a veterinarian.
