Beautiful Scottish Fold Brother and Sister Cats

Not all Scottish fold cats’ ears are folded because one of their parents does not have folded ears. If both of their parents have folded ears, it could cause severe join disease. All Scottish fold kittens were born with straight ears, but only some of them will develop the folded ears.

Theses two lovely kittens below come from Japan. Their owner has been taking pictures of them since they arrived in their new home. Japanese people have a penchant for cats especially the Scottish fold besides the Japanese Bobtail. [See Tama, the first feline corporate executive in the world]

This brother and sister pair were born on March 1, 2008, Scottish fold, but their ears are not folded. Their pictures are so beautiful. You can visit the owner’s website here (not translated Japanese version here) All the pictures are taken by guremike.

There is nothing to suggest that these are Scottish Fold cats. As cute as they may be, Scottish Folds they are not.

See how their ears don’t fold? Mixed breeds if anything.

Not all Scottish fold ears actually fold until they are a little older. Not only that even as adults they don't thicken and fold either. If I remember my statistic it's only 3 or 4 of 10 that actually fold.

As the post at the top of the page states, Scottish Folds are produced by crossing a Fold with another breed of cat. Otherwise, one in four kittens (about one per litter) will be born with a bone disorder. These cats do look like Folds! Look how round they are! They have the dome shaped heads, short necks, broadly spaced eyes and that "sweet expression." Maybe you should so a little research before writing such an ill-informed post.

    Hi Me,

There are scottish fold kitties with straight ears since one of their parents has straight ears. You can’t breed them with both folded-eared cats coz it would cause some genertic disease. :-) anyhow, I always like the ones with straight ears because they are just so adorable.

    Hi Tara,
All Scottish Folds are born with straight ears, once they get older the ears will start to fold. So it’s possible, since these are kittens, that they just haven’t developed a full fold in their ears.

The ear will either fold or not around the 21st day of their lives. These kittens are way too old to ever fold. You will know before you ween them whether or not they will fold and how tight the fold is going to be. True you breed a fold with one that is not folded, but you do not mix breeds, though these probably have been as their faces are not as flat as a pure Scottish Fold. In the back breeding of this adorable breed is a Persian line causing the flatter face, but not the caved in look of the Persians. Another throwback is that they will occasionally have the long hair. They are now recognized as their own breed and are absolutely beautiful. Still the darlings are awfully Cute!
