A feral cat named Specter is the babysitter to many kittens from the barn. “Specter is a male cat that showed up here a couple of years ago. At first we only saw fleeting glimpses of him running to and from our barn (so I named him ‘specter’ – like a ghost). Eventually he became brave enough to come up onto our deck, where all of my cats get fed… He’s finally grown to trust us and is one of the sweetest ccats I’ve ever met,” said Liv, animal lover from Southern Indiana.
Specter is unlike other feral cats. He has a heart like a parent. Whenever he sees little kittens, he ears perk up and he takes to them as if they were his own. “We call him ‘The Babysitter’ because when the kittens were tiny, Specter would always lay with them. He would lick and groom them, and sometimes we’d even catch the babies trying to nurse off of him.” He likes to sleep in the hay with the kittens and “kisses them all over, just like a mother cat.”
“Specter is definitely at his happiest, when he’s surrounded by kittens,” Liv wrote.

That is undoubtedly the sweetest thing I’ve seen in a long time. He’s just acting on instinct, and the kittens don’t know any difference. Wonderful!
That’s so sweet, and so peculiar, as male cats are usually aggressive towards kittens. They’re all so cute, and Uncle Specter is a very handsome cat! ^^

We’ve had a couple of male cats that take of the little ones like that. They’re few and far between but what special cats they are. He’s such a sweet heart.

I have 2 male cats like that….I call them my “nanny cats.” I raised 2 litters of bottle-fed orphans (6 months apart) and kept 1 from each litter. They’ve helped me foster many litters since then. They even played nannies for a blind pit puppy I fostered from 4 days to 12 weeks.
I would be at my happiest surrounded by kittens too.

Isn’t that unusual for a male cat to take to another male’s kittens like that.. They usually kill kitten’s by other male cats by ripping the throat out. I’ve seen this with my own eyes. So this guy is unusual.. Or does this sometimes happen with neutered males??
