It took a village, all day and evening to get this tiny gray kitten from under the city streets to the safety and comfort of a new home.

A few good samaritans heard a kitten's crying when they were walking in to work in the morning. They started calling for help.

Itty Bitty Kitty Committee shares the story with Love Meow: "There was a kitty in a drain under the streets of downtown Charleston. City workers had blocked the street and had gone into the drain to get the kitten, but they had no luck. The kitten ran farther into the stone drain under the city streets.

We got inside the drain and set a live trap. When we went to check it a couple of hours later we finally saw the kitten...she was too small to make the trap close.

We did not want the kitten to run from us when we went back into the drain so we came up with a crazy plan. We bought fishing nets and attached them to long poles. We opened a man hole and worked together to trap her in the nets and lift her to safety."

"She was eating some food we had dropped in the center of the drain so she was preoccupied while we lowered the two nets. We were able to close them up around her. We were thankful she didn't run to the third tunnel since we only had means of blocking two."

"We know that the kitten was in that drain under the streets of Charlesron for over 12 hours. And we thought about her every minute of that time. We did not give up and we got her out!

Officer Matt Petty stopped to assist us. Not only did he help us with traffic, but he jumped right in and helped us lift her to safety."

Her name is Catlyn and she is estimated to be around 6 weeks old.

"Catlyn is doing great and is a healthy and happy little girl. She has quite a bit of growing to do."

The veterinarian who treated her that night took her home to foster, and it didn't take long for them to realize they couldn't part with her. Now they are in the process of adopting her.
