Spike came to his foster home along with his three other siblings. They were in need of their forever homes. William H. and his wife took them into their foster home. They have fostered hundreds of kittens, but Spike is one of those that just steals your heart instantly. One thing that sets him apart from the litter is his big adorable mittens. Spike has extra toes on each of his feet which makes him quite dexterous with toys and other things.

“Spike is polydactyl which means that he has extra toes. It looks like he has little thumbs on his front paws,” said William H. With cute mittens like his, it is no surprise that he was the first to be adopted. He is happy for the second chance he was given and now sharing his polydactyl fun and antics with his forever family.

This precious baby was born on April 30, 2011. Though the eyes aren’t opened yet, the little one loves to show off his 24 tiny toes (7, 6, 6, 5). She was born to a feral mama cat Heidi and has one brother who is also a polydactyl and a lovely calico sister. The rescuers are working day and night to look after the mama and her litter.

They will be available for adoption, once they are 8-12 weeks old. You can find them in the south of the Twin Cities in Minnesota.

Sparkle is playful and full of life

Sparkle is a very special kitty. She is currently about 7 months old, and has been a part of my family for almost 2 months now.

I work at a no-kill animal shelter, and she and 3 of her litter-mates came to us as young kittens, with Upper Respiratory Infections (URI) and scabies. The scabies eventually got better, but they all were sick with the URI for quite a while. Sparkle ended up losing her eye to the URI. It spread to the eye, and damaged it so badly that it had to be surgically removed.

All of the kittens were very shy and skittish. She was probably the most skittish of the group. That night, after her surgery, she ended up coming home with me. I was the one who volunteered to foster her and make sure she made it ok through the night. My dad also helped me. She was sedated, but still very scared. I held her in my arms, wrapped in a blanket for hours.
