A small bookstore (SAM KEE Bookstore, 森記圖書) in North Point, Hong kong became a little haven for many local homeless and stray cats. According to Chunli who visited the store recently, the owners of the bookstore have taken in many homeless cats and let them sleep in, play inside and hang out with their customers. The kitties are given plenty of food and love and attention from everyone in the store. They love to patrol around the aisles and nap on a stack of books or often time a customer’s lap.
Many people come to the bookstore to read and spend time with the kitties. Some are regular customers who have bonded with some of the cats in the store.
The bookstore is a permanent home to many cats who otherwise would be roaming the street. They feel very loved and happy there.

Welcome sign in the bookstore

There are many cat trees in the store for the cats to climb and hang out

Every corner of the store, there is a cat bed for the kitties to nap in

Nap time!

The owners of the bookstore put up a photo of each cat they adopted from the street and created a little gallery in the store.

The bookstore is decorated with all kinds of cat ornaments

Very neat! If I'm ever in Hong Kong, I'm going to visit!
)
What a wonderful initiative! I love it.
Aww. how nice. I wish they put this posting earlier. I was just in Hong Kong last week!!! Just missed this.
I LOVE it when businesses have animals on their premises. I think it makes for better business AND helps wayward kitties in the process. Kudos to this bookstore! Thank you for being so kind to our fellow Earth inhabitants
What and wonderfully sweet and touching story!
This is such a heartwarming story! Since I am a kitty lover, I love going into businesses that have "shop" kitties. They are just more inviting.
What a wonderful story. This is a win, win situation. The cats are off of the street and happy and the customers love coming into the store to spend time with the cats. We need more businesses like this!
Very sweet kitties!
I have seen maybe 2 businesses in the US where they had animals on their premises. I think people are so concerned with "what if a customer has allergies" that they won't even think about it.
Ahh-cats and books. Two of my favorites. What lovely people to give these waifs a home.
great story <3
What a heart warming story, so generous of the owners to care for these kittens and cats. That is a good reason to go to the bookstore, read a good book and see the cats!!
GOD blessed these generous people..
brilliant idea,
like what Dewey has done to the library
You took the words right out of my mouth. First thing i thought about was Dewey!!!
Dewey must be smiling down – wherever he is…
I would hang out there just to give the cats some attention.
great combo! We have a bookstore with kitties, in Seattle, too.
Can someone tell me where the book store is? I am from Hong Kong, I would love to visit there, I am a cat and dog lover. Thx in advance.
What a beautiful story. I love the shot of the kittens laying on the old mans lap! Soooo sweet.
Can someone please tell me where the book store is? I would love to visit there, because I am also from Hong Kong. Thx in advance.
Aawww this is a commendable effort to help with strays.. true love! Can I haf the addie so I can go visit? I travel to HK twice a year…
I've been to a bookstore in Hong Kong like this! I wonder if it's the same bookstore? It's in North Point.
Yes it is in North Point
.
How much better can it get? Curl up to a good book and a wonderful kitty curls up to you too!! They're safe and happy and make the customers happier
WHERE is this bookstore in Hong Kong? Just so that if we ever go there, we know where to drop by to encourage the bookstore owners and cuddle with the kitties. If friends of ours go, we can also send them there!
wish more places like this existed!!! I would go to this book store!!
A bookstore with cats is my idea of heaven!
Is there an address for this store?
this is fantastic xxx
I've been there & the kitties are not afraid of strangers at all:)
Kudos to the owner of this shop..they provide shelter for over 30 cats in such a small shop. Sometimes I wonder if they can keep up with the expenses..
for those staying in HK, the address is:
北角森記圖書公司
英皇道191號英皇中心地庫19號
Thank you Lorna. Here is the address in English:
SAM KEE Bookstore, North Point
191 King's Road, King's Centre Basement 19
wonderful
Love this! That is so great that those cats have a place like that to stay <3 I would like to go there!!!
That's so sweet, makes me think of a book store I visited a few times in San Antonio, TX. It's called 9 Lives Bookstore, they have cats wandering around the store too, not sure if they are strays or cats they just happened to own.
people should go there and buy books from this kind old gentleman and keep the store alive.
Yay for the owner(s) of the bookstore!!! I'll visit next time I am in HK.
I'm going to share this with my daughter who lives near HK and sometimes shops there! TY
I work at a University Library here in Canada & feel there is nothing more magical than cats & books together in the same place! My fellow cat-loving friend & I would love to visit one day!
What a lovely story! Lucky kitties!>^.^<
it is such a good thing that the owner of the bookstore is doing.it is also too bad that there are sooo many stray cats.god bless the owner and god bless the cats he cares for.
This is heaven for the stray kitties waw thats amazing bookstore i want to visit this place.
Reminds me of the story, Dewey, the Library Cat about a kitten abandoned in a book drop in Iowa and found by the librarian the next morning. Great book! Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World By Vicki Myron, Bret Witter. He lived to be 19 and was loved by all the town.
I LOVE this story! What a wonderful home for the cats–and what fun for the customers. This is exactly the type of store that would draw my business–it combines two of my very favorite things–books and cats! I concur with the two above comments about the "Dewey" book; it's heart-warming and inspiring!
I second that comment – everybody must read "Dewey – The Small Town Library Cat" if you haven't read it already!!
I’ve read it already twice – and listened to the audio book. Someone should write a book about the Cats in this book store.
would probably make a fortune…
