Kitty Adopted by EMT Who Saved Him

A tiny fuzzy kitten was adopted by a man from the emergency medical service who rescued him and brought him to safety.

“This little hungry piggy was found by my niece’s EMT boyfriend on a cold night, under a car in New Jersey. He was five weeks old and 3/4 of a pound when found alone,” said Annie S.

“Here he is being bottle fed every 3 hours. He has since been adopted by the EMT who found him and lives with a 90 lb great dane mix who loves him,” Annie added.

Kitty can’t wait to eat…

Absolutely adorable but everything I’ve read about feeding orphaned kittens says to NOT feed them on their back. I’m not sure why though so maybe someone can specify?

“Don’t feed a kitten on it’s back. Lay the kitten belly-down on a towel on your lap to imitate the posture it would have nursing from it’s mother…”

A doctor and a cat lover told me that it is because if, somehow, some of milk goes to the kittie’s lung, it may cause an infection, and thus can be deadly. :( so that is why they should be fed as imitating his/her mother. I managed to feed two cats like that, when I found them, they were like 4-5 days old. they are perfectly healthy in their forever homes now. :)

They can aspirate on the milk if fed belly up like an infant. I’m sure many do okay when their owners do no know this. but…it is taught to feed them upright for their health and safety. Plus, its more like mama cat would do,

I recently had to bottle feed (temporarily) little kittens and was told by the vet to mimic the mom’s position as much as possible, which meant having the kitten on his or her tummy while attempting to feed. That said, kittens often lay on their backs when suckling on their mommas. I am just glad this little angel was saved and cherished.
