Three Kitties with Cerebellar Hypoplasia Wobble into Forever Homes

Jello, Dizzy and Kazoo were born with a condition that makes them wobble when they walk. They were found in a cardboard box in a gutter around the corner from the shelter. Lisa, an experienced fosterer took them in, helped them rehab and found them a chance to live a normal happy life.

“They have a condition known as cerebellar hypoplasia that was passed on to them from their mother before they were born. Kazoo is the least affected and only shakes a little, Dizzy gets excited and does flips and falls over.. Jello can only stand for short periods of time and gets around by pushing and pulling herself. All are in good health and can lead long normal lives, but need extra special care.”

During foster care, volunteers worked on strengthening their legs and doing play “rehab” with a laser pointer, which the kitties always love.

Today all three kitties are living happily at their forever homes. they are very loved and don’t need pity for the way they walk, because they think they are just fine.

    What beautiful cats they are!

I just LOVE that purr serenade in the 1st video.
I wonder if the babies need to be locked up in a safe room when the parents leave for the day.

My long lost Figgy lived 18 years with C.H. Her gait wasn’t as affected as these kittens’, but she fell over on her side constantly, fell from heights, and amazingly was never hurt. She had other symptoms as well: digestive problems, almost no teeth (only ever had 4, and 1 was impacted and had to be pulled), among others. But she was the most intelligent, loving cat I’ve ever had, and I miss her every single day.

My CH girl Melanie was the same way; I was always sure she was going to fall and hurt herself, but she never did. She was a joy and an inspiration for 12 years.

My CH kitty ‘Lotus Blossom” was my first bottle fed foster for the Portage APL in 2002. She was 10 days old and came to me with her brother, unfortunately he didn’t survive. I adopted her, she was considered unadoptable because she has a severe balance problem, seizures, only 2 teeth, allergies, throws terrible temper tantrums and other issues. It took her 8 years to learn how to go up stairs and is now 11 years old. I have since fostered over 600 animals, mostly bottle fed kittens, momcats w/newborns and special needs animals.

Really amazing that loving homes were found for these 3 sweethearts. Animals rarely think there’s anything wrong with them, and we humans are finally catching up!

They are such beautiful kitties and I’m so happy they found a loving forever home that’s safe. It’s wonderful to read about people who take in special needs animals.

My C.H. cat, Charlie Brown, will be 13 on April 1 and came to live with me when he had just turned 1. He really taught me a lesson in not feeling sorry for yourself as he thinks he’s perfectly normal–and he is except for his unsteady gait. He can jump on the furniture and the bed by propelling himself somehow. He is such a sweet boy that everyone who meets him falls in love with him.

I have stairs in my apartment as I am on the second floor, but he seems to sense that he should stay away from them.
